The final performances of the musical Vesper, great symphonic works, educational meetings, and an exhibition of works by artists from both ends of the globe – the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic invites you to March events.

Gary Guthman’s musical Vesper, inspired by the life of Krystyna Skarbek, one of the most extraordinary figures of World War II, will be showing on the Main Stage until mid-March. This is the first musical about her life. Vesper is both a story of heroic struggle and difficult choices, and a tribute to a woman for whom love and fidelity to values proved stronger than death. The performance will be performed on March 1, 7, 8, and 15 on the Main Stage on Odeska Street.

The opera’s Chamber Stage will also feature the performance of Night Icons, directed by Patryk Ołdziejewski. This dark, poetic offering for adult audiences explores the confrontation of one’s own fears, memory, and the spiritual legacy of one’s ancestors, balancing humor and a chilling sense of dread. The Opera invites you to the final performance of this production on Sunday, March 1, at 5:00 PM.

On March 6, the Concert Hall of the Music School Complex on Podleśna Street will host the concert Masterful Interpretations. The program includes Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’s Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, with violin virtuoso Piotr Pławner performing the solo part and Johannes Brahms’s Symphony No. 4 in E minor, Op. 98. The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk.

On March 20 and 21, the Opera’s Main Stage will host a musical evening dedicated to the work of Edvard Grieg. The program will include the Piano Concerto in A minor, Op. 16, featuring Mateusz Dubiel, a participant in the last edition of the Chopin Competition. After the intermission, there will be a dance performance by Button Moulder, set to music from Peer Gynt, performed by artists of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Ballet, choreographed by Karolina Garbacik. The orchestra will be conducted by Maestro Tomasz Tokarczyk. An Evening with Grieg will begin at 7:00 PM.

On the last Friday of March, music lovers will hear George Frideric Händel’s monumental oratorio Messiah on the Main Stage of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, performed by the Orchestra and Choir of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, along with distinguished soloists. The artists will be led by Maestro Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk. The event begins at 7:00 PM.

The March concert program will be complemented by an event organized as part of the Third Stage. A special concert, Atramentowe 10 years performed by Stanisława Celińska, is scheduled for March 13th. The artist will be accompanied by an ensemble led by Maciej Muraszko. The event is a musical culmination of a decade of work, beginning with the album Atramentowa, and features works filled with tenderness, reflection, and poetic contemplation, which have become a source of solace and emotional connection for many listeners.

March 19th – the next installment of the Academic Youth Stage. Students of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, Białystok Branch, will perform on the Chamber Stage of the Student Youth School on Podleśna Street. During the concert, the young artists will present a repertoire ranging from the Baroque to the contemporary, featuring compositions by G.F. Händel, J.S. Bach, W.A. Mozart, J. Brahms, S. Moniuszko, and Michał Lorenc. The concert begins at 7:00 PM.

The youngest music lovers can look forward to a rich educational program in March. Students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops titled In the Rhy(th)ms of Tuwim’: The Mystery of Great-Great-Grandfather’s Chest, which poetically combine music and literature. Interactive activities like Opera Story – Discover the Secrets of the Opera! will allow you to peek behind the scenes and learn about the daily workings of the Opera. The program Chopin and Moniuszko’s Musical Suitcase will take young listeners on a humorous journey through the world of two great composers of Polish Romanticism, while meetings in the Three Worlds series will demonstrate the fascinating power of music built solely on rhythm, color, and imagination.

In March, the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic also invites adult audiences to another intimate gathering called Ope(n)rhymes – meetings with poetry and opera. The event, which will take place on March 22nd, titled European Map of Operatic Emotions, will explore how different traditions and cultures express love, longing, and inner strength. The event begins at 6:00 PM.

Opera lovers will be able to experience another broadcast from New York’s Metropolitan Opera on March 21st. A moving operatic meditation on love and death will grace the screen of the Metropolitan Opera Chamber Stage: Richard Wagner’s Tristan and Isolde. The stunning Lise Davidsen will tackle one of the most demanding roles for a dramatic soprano – the Irish princess Isolde – and will be partnered by tenor Michael Spyres as the love-struck Tristan. This extraordinary event also marks the premiere of a new production directed by Yuval Sharon – an artist hailed by The New York Times as ‘the most visionary opera director of his generation’. The broadcast begins at 5:00 PM.

The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic’s March program will be complemented by the contemporary art exhibition Women’s Republic II. On March 7th, the Exhibition Hall will host the opening of an exhibition of works by 16 artists representing diverse fields – from painting and textile art to sculpture, performance, and design. The event will be accompanied by a unique musical performance with Anna Karolska, who will perform her most famous works, accompanied by Buslav on saxophone. The opening will begin at 4:00 PM, and the exhibition will be on view until April 12, 2026.
