Description:
After years of anticipation, on 21 March 2026, a broadcast that is not to be missed will hit cinema screens around the world. The phenomenal Lise Davidsen will take on one of the most demanding roles for a dramatic soprano – the role of the Irish princess Isolde in Tristan and Isolde, Wagner’s moving operatic meditation on love and death. She will be partnered by tenor Michael Spyres as the lovesick Tristan. This extraordinary event also marks the premiere of a new production directed by Yuval Sharon, an artist hailed by The New York Times as ‘the most visionary opera director of his generation’ and the first American to direct an opera at the famous Bayreuth Festival. It will also be the first performance of Tristan and Isolde at the New York opera under the baton of Met music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova will reprise her role as Brangäne, and bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny will appear as Gorwenal (following his enthusiastically received roles in The Flying Dutchman and The Ring of the Nibelung). Bass-baritone Ryan Speedo Green will make his debut in the role of King Marke.
