The Singing Fredro
The Sejm of the Republic of Poland has declared 2023 the Year of Aleksander Fredro. This year also marks the 230th anniversary of his birth. To celebrate this, the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic has prepared a series of school programs that will introduce primary school students to this outstanding writer in an attractive way. Artists will present Aleksander Fredro’s poems in the form of songs and chants from various musical genres. By engaging listeners in diction, creating their own songs based on any musical form, and familiarizing them with musical concepts such as tempo, dynamics, articulation, and the character of a piece, the performers will stimulate participants’ imaginations and their sensitivity to literature and music.
The Singing Fredro workshops are a series of 40 field workshops. The project is co-financed by Dr. Artur Kosicki, Marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, and by funds from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage from the Cultural Promotion Fund – a state-funded special-purpose fund. The workshops are designed for students in grades 1-5 of primary school. In previous years, over 1,500 students have participated in the workshops, and this year we will be meeting another thousand. Our artists will visit 16 schools, including those in Drohiczyn, Ciechanowiec, Narewka, and Białowieża. The first workshops are scheduled for September 26th.
