Verdi’s “Macbeth,” the newest CD of Fryderyk Chopin National Institute featuring Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Choir, has already been released under the label Glossa. That is a great promotion for our institution on the global opera scene.

Fabio Biondi and his great early music ensemble Europa Galante decided to record Verdi’s “Macbeth” in the original 1847 Florentine version. Once again he invited to this project Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Choir directed by Violetta Bielecka, solidifying the long-term friendship between the two groups.

Solo parts were sung by worldwide renown soloists: as Macbeth—Giovanni Meoni (baritone), as Lady Macbeth—Nadja Michael (soprano), as Banco—Fabrizio Beggi (bass), as Macduff—Giuseppe Valentino Buzza (tenor), as Malcolm—Marco Ciaponi (tenor), as Lady-in-waiting—Valentina Marghinotti (soprano), as Doctor and Servant—Federico Benetti (bass). Also performing there were our chorists: Krzysztof Szyfman (baritone) as Sicario and Mateusz Stachura (baritone) as an Apparition.

The recordings were held in the Great Theatre—National Opera in Warsaw in August 2017. August 20, 2017 the same cast performed a concerto version of the opera as part of the “Chopin and His Europe” Festival organised by the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute. The project is implemented at the invitation of Stanisław Leszczyński, assistant director of the Intitute.

When it comes to recordings made by our Choir, lest not forget extensive and very positive review of the “All-Night Vigil” written by William Hedley for the „MusicWeb International” (musicweb-international.com).
