The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic has prepared for February, among other things, a musical, concerts featuring stars, educational programs for children and young people, and an exhibition showcasing six decades of artistic encounters with nature.

The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic’s February repertoire opens with performances. On the Main Stage, audiences will be able to see Gary Guthman’s musical Vesper, telling the extraordinary story of Krystyna Skarbek – one of the most prominent female spies of World War II. This is the first musical about this character, combining a dynamic narrative with a modern musical language. The performance will be presented on February 1, 7, 8, 21, 22, and 28. The Opera has also planned special morning performances for students from February 17 to 20.

The second performance presented is Night Icons, directed by Patryk Ołdziejewski. It is a dark, poetic story for adults about confronting one’s own fears, memory and the spiritual legacy of one’s ancestors. Balancing between humor and a thrill of horror, Night Icons is a proposition for audiences seeking reflective and unconventional theater. The performance will be performed on the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Chamber Stage on February 28th at 5:00 PM.

Concerts are a significant part of the February program of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic. The carnival character of the month will be highlighted by the concert A Night Full of Stars, which will take place on February 6th. The First Lady of Operetta, Grażyna Brodzińska, will perform on the Main Stage, accompanied by Maciej Nerkowski and the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Mirosław Jacek Błaszczyk. The evening’s program will combine jazz, operetta, musical, and classical dance traditions, leading the audience through hits by Gershwin, Strauss, Berlin, Lloyd Webber, and many other distinguished 20th-century composers.

On February 13, 14, and 15, the Opera’s Main Stage will be filled with the rhythms of love, resounding during the Valentine’s Day Swing of Hearts concerts. The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Big Band, led by Andrzej Makal, along with soloists Weronika Bochat, Monika Ziółkowska, and Maciej Nerkowski, will present classic jazz, swing, and romantic ballads. The program will feature songs from the repertoires of artists such as Frank and Nancy Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, Michael Bublé, and Hanka Ordonówna.

On Thursday, February 19, the next installment of the Academic Youth Stage will take place. Young artists, students of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, Białystok Branch, will present a diverse repertoire encompassing chamber, operatic, and instrumental music, from Bach and Verdi to Moniuszko, Rossini, and Maklakiewicz. The musical evening in the Chamber Hall of the Music School  on Podleśna Street will begin at 7:00 PM.

The February concert program will culminate in the Verdi’s Gala, scheduled for the last Friday of the month, February 27th. Outstanding soloists and the Orchestra and Choir of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, conducted by Tadeusz Wojciechowski, will present the most beautiful excerpts from the works of one of the greatest opera composers, Giuseppe Verdi.

The Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic also caters to the youngest music lovers. The Young Melomaniac Stage features an educational program, Konopnicka 2, or what spring and summer sounded like for our great-grandparents, which will be presented from February 10th to 13th on the Chamber Stage of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic. Inspired by the work of Zygmunt Noskowski and with lyrics by Maria Konopnicka, the program introduces children to the world of valuable music and literature. Additionally, young audience members and students will have the opportunity to participate in workshops the Opera Story  – discover the secrets of Opera, held on February 9th and 23rd, and in the musical journey In the Rhy(th)ms of Tuwim’: The Mystery of Great-Great-Grandfather’s Chest, which will explore rhythm, words, and music through the poetry of Julian Tuwim from February 25th to 27th.

The Opera’s February repertoire also includes an exhibition 60 Years of Białowieża Painting Open-Air, presented in the Exhibition Hall of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic. The exhibition shows the dialogue between the past and the present by juxtaposing works by participants in historical open-air workshops with works created during the October 2025 gathering. It tells a story of artistic continuity, the power of creative community, and the constant inspiration from nature, which remains a living source of art. The exhibition is part of the third edition of the Podlasie Art Dimension project and will be open to visitors until February 26th.
