Founded in 2009, the ensemble was founded by musicians from southern Poland, but with family and professional ties to Białystok: Anna Kamińska (piano), Paweł Polak (violin), and Grzegorz Vytlacil (cello). The group’s name also refers to their exploration of lesser-known and less frequently performed works. The Lontano Piano Trio’s repertoire includes works by composers from various eras and countries, but they are particularly interested in the literature of Polish composers. In 2017, they recorded their first album, featuring L. Różycki’s Rhapsody in D minor, Op. 33, and G. Fitelberg’s Piano Trio in F minor, Op. 10. In 2020, they produced an audiovisual recording of music by A. Piazzolla and J. Turina for the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, and in 2021, their recording of W. Żeleński’s piano trio and quartet was released on the DUX label. For their latest album, the ensemble received a nomination for the 2022 ICMA award.
