The wind quintet La Vanagloria was formed in October 2013. It comprises solo instrumentalists normally associated with the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic Orchestra in Białystok: Kinga Pancerz (flute), Luca Neccia (oboe), Paweł Waśkowski (clarinet), Marek Kit (bassoon), and Tomasz Czekała (horn). The ensemble’s artistic vision is to enrich everyday orchestral collaborations with new musical experiences of playing in a chamber ensemble and to showcase the beauty of the instruments’ shared sound by presenting a broad repertoire for wind quintet—both original compositions and transcriptions. The ensemble also plans to record an album of works by Polish composers for this instrumental ensemble. The quintet’s name—la vanagloria (Spanish for vanity)—refers to the myth of Narcissus, a young man captivated by his reflection in a stream. With a pinch of salt, this story can be related to musicians who, with their playing, convince themselves and their listeners of the perfection of music every day, and with their skills, contemplate its beauty every day.
