The original, modern and beautiful Main Stage is the beating heart of the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, where our most important events take place. The classical operatic character of the auditorium is juxtaposed with a colour palette that one would generally not associate with opera buildings. Thanks to the machinery and moveable acoustic solutions placed above the auditorium, the acoustics and lighting may be adapted to a whole range of cultural events.
This impressive stage measuring 20 × 16 m—one of the largest in Poland—makes extensive use of modern technologies, and is equipped with four two-level trap doors, a revolving stage, 53 battens from which scenery and props are hung, and an automatic stage mechanism. This is where you can hear one of the largest organs in Poland, designed by Prof. Andrzej Chorosiński (the instrument has 61 voices and over 4 thousand pipes; the diameter of smallest equals that of two matchsticks, while the largest is around 0.5 m in diameter).
The original 30-metre smoke curtain, decorated with a large-format work by Rafał Olbiński’s, is another truly awe-inspiring sight. The Main Stage auditorium is additionally decorated with 10 pairs of sculptures by Dominik Wdowski.
