When it comes to beautiful melodies, breathtaking coloratura and vocal performances of the highest calibre, Bellini’s I Puritani is second to none.
On 10 January 2026, a new, spectacular staging of the master’s last opera – the first at the Met in almost 50 years – will be released in cinemas around the world. Charles Edwards, who after years of success as a set designer is making his debut as a director at the New York opera, is responsible for the staging. The leading, extremely demanding roles will be performed by stars of the world opera scene.
Lisette Oropesa and Lawrence Brownlee will play Elvira and Arturo, lovers separated by the political divisions of the English Civil War. They will be joined on stage by Artur Ruciński as Riccardo, Elvira’s unwanted fiancé, and Christian Van Horn as Giorgio, the girl’s kind and caring uncle. The orchestra will be conducted by Marco Armiliato.
