It is with great sadness that we received the news of the death of Elżbieta Penderecka. A patron of culture, promoting music in Poland and around the world and supporting the careers of young artists, she passed away suddenly today, October 31st, at the age of 78. For over 50 years, she stood by Krzysztof Penderecki’s side, providing the composer with a home and conditions for creative work, and accompanying him on numerous journeys, during which she always committed herself to disseminating Polish culture. Her work gained wide recognition at home and abroad, as evidenced by the numerous awards she received.

She was the originator and organizer of many important artistic events and festivals, such as the Ludwig van Beethoven Easter Festival, to which artists from the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic were also invited several times.

In three weeks, on November 21, 2025, Elżbieta Penderecka was scheduled to perform Krzysztof Penderecki’s Polish Requiem at the Podlasie Opera and Philharmonic, for which she is the Honorary Patron.

We share in your grief and extend our sincerest condolences to the Family and Loved ones.
