Baritone. A graduate of the Academy of Music in Wrocław in the class of B. Makal. He is a laureate of national and international competitions, received a scholarship from the Wrocław local government in the field of Culture and Art for Talented Young Wrocławians, and received scholarship from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. In 2001-2002, he perfected his voice with Professor L. Spitzer in Vienna. In 2002 he made his debut at the Teatr Wielki – National Opera in Warsaw singing the role of Pelleas in the opera Pelléas et Mélisande by C. Debussy. The artist is a regular guest at numerous opera houses in Poland and abroad. Among his major artistic achievements and events, Mariusz Godlewski counts: participating in the world premiere of K. Penderecki’s song Powiało na mnie morze snów at the National Philharmonic in Warsaw; being invited by V. Gergiev to perform under his baton at the White Nights Festival in Saint Petersburg; participating in the Beijing Music Festival under K. Penderecki’s direction; receiving the Jan Kiepura Theatre Music Award in the “Best Singer” category for the role of Scarpio in G. Puccini’s Tosca and the role of Zurga in G. Bizet’s The Pearl Fishers; and receiving a nomination for the Radio Wrocław Kultura Award for his world-class performance of the title role in P. Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin. From 2019 to 2022 at the request of the Fryderyk Chopin Institute, Mariusz Godlewski recorded three solo albums of songs by S. Moniuszko with pianist R. Kurek. He also recorded an album of F. Chopin’s songs with participation of O. Pasiecznik and pianists – R. Kurek and K. Kenner. His recording collection also includes operas by S. Moniuszko: The Haunted Manor (Zbigniew), The Flis (Jakub), Beata (Henryk Volsey), and Halka (Janusz). The artist received the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Award from the Mazovian Voivodeship for his recording of S. Moniuszko’s second volume of songs and for his portrayal of Podczaszyc in the composer’s recording of The Countess. Mariusz Godlewski’s repertoire includes a number of major operatic roles and also performs vocal lyric works by F. Schubert and J. Brahms, as well as German and English baroque music. The artist received the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Award from the Mazovian Voivodeship for his recording of S. Moniuszko’s second volume of songs and for his portrayal of Podczaszyc in the composer’s recording of The Countess.
