Gustav Mahler in his Symphony no. 2 looks for answers to elementary questions. He speaks up on the metaphysics and religion. The title “Ressurection” includes a clear theological message. “In my two symphonies there is nothing but the full contents of my life”—the composer was supposed to say. Soon after finishing the Symphony no. 2 he decided to get christened and convert to Catholicism.
